Here we present a case of a 2.03ct diamond given J color by GIA (Gemological institute of Amercia) and I Color by IGI (International Gemological institute) . Basically both labs have their own style of grading a diamond and hence there can be a slight difference in terms of color and clarity. GIA is the lab which has invented the grading parameters for diamonds. Both the labs are renowned international diamond grading laboratories.
List of International Diamond grading Labs
There are many international diamond grading labs , the list is as follows

IGI is widely accepted in India ,Europe , Middle east and some parts of Asia. HRD headquartered in belgium is popular in Europe. Take away from this case study
In this case as we mentioned IGI gave I Color while GIA gave J color to a diamond. However when it comes to cost , you will spend say US $20,000 buying a J Color diamond and same amount for an I color diamond. An end Consumer may be under a wrong impression that the jeweller is giving higher discount for a J color diamond compared to an I Color diamond. But thats not the case.
Do not feel that the jeweller is giving a better deal for a J color diamond and not for I Color diamond. However it is not necessary that there is always difference in grading of 2 Labs. As we have a trained eye and better ability of understanding reports so we can understand how the pricing of a same diamond with different lab certificates is done.
Although it is the jewellers responsibility to inform the consumer , we recommend consumers to get it verified from a third party like us. This is because we help consumers to buy a diamond only after imparting full knowledge about it.
